******************************************************************************* Larry's HANGMAN Version 1.0 ******************************************************************************* Copyright (c) 1992 All Rights Reserved Hello. Welcome to LARRY'S HANGMAN. If you have already played my game then I hope you have enjoyed it. If not then charge on in. Everyone can use a bit of english brush up. You may even find a word or 2 mispelled in this document, but after all, humans will be humans! I don't have to tell you much about ShareWare. We all know this is a try before you buy option. That makes it nice. But it is sure hard on a programmer when that is the only source for his time. I told myself I would not go into this to deep so I wont. 15 days to evaluate this and $15 to register, the old 15/15 ratio. The address is at the end, but first some important help for the game. FILES INCLUDED: There are 4 files included with the untouched original version, and they are dated as of MAY-13-92. Here they are: HANGMAN1.EXE (The main program) README.TXT (This file) WORD.DAT (Basic words) ADVWORD.DAT (Advanced words) REQUIREMENTS: This program was written to cater to the VGA group, 640x480 type screen, mode 12 it is called. It has been tested on several 286's ranging from 8 to 33 megahertz. Also has been tested on the 386 to 486 group with all kinds of intentional harrassment, and I think that the big bugs and spiders are gone. Dos 5.0 was the main operating system it was tested on and I seldom have any problems from 3.2 to 5.0 on any program I write. So here it is: IBM or compatible Dos 3.2 to 5.0 286 to 486 VGA MINIMUM Color of course (16) 640x480 384 K min ADD WORD OPTIONS: The main option I wanted to incorporate was the user defineable words. You can add as many words as you want to 1 of the levels from inside of the game and a special menu is there for the ease to do it. The main thing to remember is this: If you add a blank line then once in a while the program will select it as a word and guess what? NOTHING is there. So, when you get prompted for a word, enter 1 and when you are done press . Then you will be prompted with this: Another word? or . Yes or no of course, and pressing Y will allow another word to be entered. Pressing N will close and save the database. Also enter all words in LOWER CASE. The menu will tell you what you need to know and it is simple to do. If you desire to erase the MISC word file to start a new one, or if you just made a mistake or 2 or 3, ha ha, then do this: C:\HANGMAN> del misc.dat REMOVES THE MISC WORD FILE / \ / \ | | | |__ The directory you put it in. |___ The drive you put it on. This of course will remove all words from the misc word file. Now the neat thing is when you go into the game to enter words, if the file is not there it creates it's own, so don't worry. If it is there then it will add to it and not disturb the words already there. Now this: Keep words 15 letters or under (Registered is 25) DON'T enter a space, put a word! Keep all files in the same directory. Ex: C:\HANGMAN> PLAYING: In the Basic and Misc games you have up to 10 wrong answers, and sometimes that is not enough. But it is a good average. If you want less then the Advanced game gives you a maximum of 7 wrongs and harder words. The registered version will have more levels. All the vital statistics are kept track of and displayed at the end of each game so as to not put to much in the display while playing. MISC WORDS: The neatest option is the misc word part. You can enter words for the younger people of the house, or the college senior. Use it to memorize or just for fun. Being user programmable makes it worth the trouble to write this game. The sky is the limit and there is no limit to the ideas for the kinds of words to use. Ha ha again! The registered version has 6 user defineable games. Everything is pretty much self explanatory which is the purpose of this program. Simplicity for all ages and usable for all too. Here is the address for registration: Payable to ------> Larry Parker 2049 Bunch Way Carson, Nv. 89706 Specify 3-1/2" or 5-1/4" disks.
